Obituary for Asencion M Benavides

Asencion “Benny” Benavides Jr., age 64 of Kaufman, formerly of Temple, passed from this life during the early afternoon hours of Sunday, June 19, 2022. He was born in Brazos County on the 31st day of December 1957 to parents Asencion Sr. and Apolonia (Martinez) Benavides.

Benny graduated from Rogers High School in 1976 then went on to Central Texas College in Killeen. He started his radio/television career as a Disc jockey at radio station KNCT-FM. He also worked as a photographer and producer/director at KCEN-TV Channel 6 and finished his career at KXAS-TV Channel 5 where he worked as a live van operator, satellite truck operator and audio board operator over the next 28 years before his retirement.

After his retirement Benny moved to Kaufman, TX where he enjoyed working on his ranch while doing chores and updates. He embraced the responsibilities with no hesitation. Benny took pride in his ranch and was eager to show and share it with family and friends. He also loved taking care of the many animals on his ranch. It was amazing to see how he was able to train them.

Benny loved people and never met a stranger, he shared his knowledge and mentored many during the course of his career. He was such a great Son, Brother, Friend, and co-worker. He will truly be missed.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Benny leaves behind his three siblings, Casimiro Benavides, Teresa Fraga and Arturo Benavides.

Private services for immediate family and close friends will be held on Wednesday, June 29, 2022, at Hewett-Arney Funeral Home. A private burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Temple.
