Obituary for David Henry Hill

David Henry Hill, age 90, of Moffat passed from this life during the mid-morning hours Friday, April 24, 2020 at Baylor Scott and White Hospital in Temple. Born in Waco, Texas on the 9th day of September 1929 he was the son of Jesse Sr. and Ruby (Garrett) Hill.

He attended school in China Spring before enlisting in the United States Navy at age 18. He is a proud veteran of the Korean War, serving on the USS Badoeng Strait CVE 116 and the USS Antietam CV 36 during conflict. He served for over 9 years before being discharged in 1957. While in the Navy David spent his time on 4 different aircraft carriers and various service crafts; he also made one complete world cruise, crossing the equator and made port in all but 2 of the continents and he visited most all the major islands in the north and south Pacific. During his time in the Navy he would earn the Korean Service Medal with 1 Silver Star, the United Nations Service Medal, the Naval Unit Commendation Medal and the Navy Occupation Service Medal with Asian Clip among several others that he received. Also, while in the Navy he married his first love, Wanda Ashley when they were both very young; they had 2 beautiful children together. After some time, the couple grew apart form each other and respectfully parted ways. After David’s service in the Navy he attended machinist school in Waco and worked for Mercury Tool. He later went to work for Rocketdyne and Hercules in McGregor, Texas. He worked there for 34 years until his retirement in 1993. He is also a Freemason with the Grand Lodge in Waco.

David married his forever love, Mary, on May 6, 1978. They lived in Waco until 1986 when they moved to Bell County. David loved the Lakeaire and Moffat community. He loved deer hunting and fishing. David had many longtime friends in his neighborhood. He was devoted to his family and loved each one of them very much.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife Mary Hill and his 2 children David William Hill and Debbie Campbell as well as 4 stepchildren Bobby James Lane, Michael D. Lane, Peggy Lane and Cherry Lane. David also leaves his 5 grandchildren Kenneth, Krystle and Kacie Hill and Leah and Julie Campbell. He also leaves his 9 step-grandchildren Larry Herrera, Tonya Herrera, Justin Lane, Richard Lane, Jessica Olivarri, and Kasey, Joseph, Christian and Shasta Lane.

A private funeral service will be held at Moffat Cemetery on Wednesday, April 29, 2020.
