Obituary

James “Jimmy” Ernest Henry O’Mary, age 66, of Temple passed suddenly from this life on Friday, May 8, 2020 in Williamson County. Born in Temple on the 5th day of December 1953 he was the son of James O’Mary and Margie Lou Walker.

Jimmy attended Temple schools and spent his entire life in Temple. He worked as an auto and motorcycle mechanic in his younger days then he worked for Johnson’s Piano and Organ for over 10 years. For the past 36 years Jimmy has worked for Temple ISD, 29 years in the media and technology department and for the past 6 years, until his death, he was a crossing guard at Western Hills Elementary School where he was dearly loved by the students, teachers and parents of all the kids. Jimmy loved his family. He married his wife Martha in Waco, Texas and together they have spent the last 32 years together. Family was everything to Jimmy. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren as well as his brothers and sisters, playing bingo and dominoes whenever he could. Jimmy also loved visiting Las Vegas; you could always find him sitting at his favorite slot machine trying his luck and honing his slot machine skills. The love Jimmy had for his family and for the children he helped get safely to and from school every day will be the legacy he leaves for generations to come.

Jimmy is preceded in death by his mother Margie as well as his 2 sisters Patricia Buck and Mary Douzat.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his 2 daughters Wendy Bond and husband Matthew of Temple and Sandra Rangel of Austin. He also leaves behind his 2 sisters Rita Kovar and husband Johnny of Caldwell and Kathy Sodek and husband David of Temple as well as 2 brothers Mike Soloman and wife Odessa of Virginia and Michael Chutes and wife Beverly of Waco. Also surviving are his uncle Gary Walker and wife Mary of Troy, uncle Ray O’Mary and wife Sue of Tennessee, 4 grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

The family will be holding a private funeral service at Hewett-Arney Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 19, 2020 at 11 o’clock a.m. with Pastor Bryan Miller officiating. Jimmy will be laying in state at the funeral home between the hours of 1 and 7 o’clock p.m. on Monday, May 18, 2020 for visitors to come view and sign the guest book.

The family requests in lieu of flowers that you plant a tree in Jimmy’s honor symbolizing his everlasting life in heaven and memorializing his life here on earth.

Hewett-Arney Funeral Home of Temple is entrusted with the arrangements.
