John Lewis “Big John” Elliott, age 77, of Temple passed from this life during the early morning hours of Friday, January 31, 2020 at a care facility in Austin, Texas. Born in Pasadena, California on the 11th day of April 1942 he was the son of Russell and Etta (Lewis) Elliott.

John grew up and lived almost his entire life in California. On October 1, 1960 he married the love of his life Mary Kellison in San Gabriel, California. Together the newlywed couple would spend the next 59 years together building a life and a family that would eventually include 2 daughters. Standing 6’ and 7” tall John was affectionately known by his friends and family as “Big John”. He was larger than life, not only literally but in his character too; he was a man of great integrity and ethics. John was a very Godly man. He loved listening to music, and he made music as well on his Pedal Steel Guitar and more... On most Friday nights you could find John at Bo’s Barn in Temple listening and dancing to the music. John had the heart of a giver; his love for his neighbor, the strength of his integrity and his dedication to his family and friends will be the legacy he leaves for generations to come. John was a member of The Vine in Temple as well as Soldiers of the Cross in Nolanville. He has been a resident of Temple for the past 2 ½ years.

He is preceded in death by his parents Russell and Etta.

John leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife Mary Elliott of Temple, daughter Shannon Cowling - Bailey and husband John of Ca., daughter Karee Elliott of Temple, brother Richard Elliott of South Carolina and sister Shirley Elliott of Tulsa, Oklahoma. He also leaves grandchildren Sheldon Elliott, Samantha Williams and husband Dwain, Brian Seiler and wife Jody, Coleman Cowling and Ashley Cowling. Great-grandchildren include Jake Williams, Grace Williams and Alyssa Seiler.

There will be a memorial service for Mr. Elliot at 1:00pm on Saturday, March 7, 2020 at Rise Church in San Marcos, California.

Hewett-Arney Funeral Home in Temple, TX is entrusted with arrangements.
