Obituary

Mary Frances Labra, age 61, of Temple passed peacefully from this life during the morning hours of Tuesday, January 14, 2020 with her family by her side at a local care facility. Born in Temple on the 12th day of August 1958 she was the daughter of Matias and Manuela (Hernandez) Ramos.

Mary grew up and has lived her entire life in Temple. She attended Temple schools when she was young. Mary was a very kind and caring person. She loved her family and would do anything for them. She enjoyed embroidering and sewing and loved to cook for family and friends. She could be soft-spoken at times but other times when she did speak you knew you had better listen. Mary was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Temple and attended regularly before her health began to decline.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her brothers John, Tony and Martin Ramos as well as 1 sister Janie Ramos.

Mary leaves behind to cherish her memory her 5 children Fernando Labra of San Marcos as well as Jesusa, Christina, Eduardo and David Labra all of Temple. She also leaves 3 brothers Frank and Joe Ramos both of Temple, Matthew Ramos of Rogers and 2 sisters Marcy Fuentez of Temple and Martina Ramos of Harker Heights. She also leaves numerous nieces, nephews and friends to cherish her memory including special lifelong friends Blair, Miles, Emily, Brandon, Robert, Anthony and Marisa.

A funeral service will be held at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Salado on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at 11 o’clock a.m. with Father Tom Chamberlain officiating. The family will be accepting visitors at the funeral home on Monday evening between the hours of 6 and 8 o’clock p.m. with the Rosary being recited at 7.

My condolences to the Labra and Ramos families, especially David and Eddy. I am very sorry for your loss. Mary took care of my brother, sister, and I for many years. We had many fun days with her, her children, and her sister. Though there are countless joyful moments that come and go in my mind, my most special memory of Mary is of her with outstretched arms ready to comfort me as a crying child. She always made the trivial problems of toddlers and young children melt away. She was truly a friend to all. The loving presence and stability that she brought to my childhood home will never be forgotten. I am very thankful for having known Mary and her loving care during some of the most formative years of my life. I pray that she is now in the loving care of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Mary baby sat my brother, sister, and I way back in the early to mid 90’s. I have many vivid memories of her. She was always extremely kind and caring.

She often had two of her children with her. Eduardo and David. Since David and I were closer in age, we became close. Star Wars was huge in our lives at the time and I loved playing pretend Star Wars with David. I couldn’t wait for Mary to come babysit. She always allowed my siblings and I the freedom to run around and have fun while gently maintaining discipline and order.

I always thought highly of Mary, even though I haven’t seen her or any of the Labra family in twenty years. It saddened me to hear of her passing. I wish the best for her spirit and her family.

I wish I could’ve made the memorial service. Just know that Mary and her family are in my thoughts even from all the way over here in North Carolina.
