Obituary

Placida “Blossom” Martinez, age 84, of Temple passed from this life during the early afternoon hours of Thursday, January 30, 2020 at Scott & White Hospital in Temple. Born on the 5th day of October 1935 in Chriesman, Texas she was the daughter of Victor and Josefina (Garcia) Martinez.

Placida spent her early years in Chriesman, Caldwell and Rogers but eventually made her way to Temple. Although never married she had a large extended family which included many loved nieces, nephews and friends. Placida was a hard worker. Having grown up in an era where children picked cotton with the rest of the family, she knew the value of a hard day’s work. She loved working in her yard and garden with her many gardening tools and loved cooking for her friends and family. She was an easy-going person and she could always be spotted in town walking to wherever she needed to go. Placida was a devout Catholic and member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Temple for over 40 years.

She is preceded in death by her parents Victor and Josefina as well as her 2 sisters Virginia Ramos and Apolonia Benavides as well as her 1 brother Martin Martinez.
Placida leaves behind to cherish her memory her brother Bartolo Martinez, her God-daughter Tina Rodriguez and many nieces, nephews and friends.

A funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, February 6, 2020 at 10 o'clock a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Temple. A burial will follow at St. Mary's Catholic Church Cemetery in Caldwell, Texas following the Mass. The family will be accepting visitors at the funeral home on Wednesday night between the hours of 6 and 8 o'clock p.m. The Blessed Rosary will be recited starting at 7 o’clock p.m.

Hewett-Arney Funeral Home of Temple is entrusted with the arrangements.
