Sherman Grady Davis Sr., age 73, of Rosebud passed from this life during the early afternoon hours of Thursday, February 13, 2020 at Heritage House Nursing Home in Rosebud. Born on the 25th day of June 1946 in Slaton, Texas he was the son of Sherman and Clara (Guthrie) Davis.

Although born in Slaton, Sherman was raised in Post, Texas. As a young man he attended school there and then eventually made his way to the Temple area with his mother. Sherman met Frances Payne in Troy in the 80’s. On Sept. 17, 1988 the couple would unite in marriage. They built a home and a family together until Frances’ passing in 2011. Sherman made a career of construction and roofing and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Troy for quite some time. Sherman loved his family. He enjoyed spending time with his kids and grandkids as much as he could. He enjoyed watching westerns on television and long rides through the country. Sherman’s battle with Alzheimer’s began 6 years ago. Although his struggle is over, those left to cherish his memory know that his faith in God has earned him his eternal reward and a reunion in Heaven with those gone before.

He is preceded in death by his wife Frances, parents Sherman and Clara as well as 1 sister and 1 brother.

Sherman leaves behind his children Lisa Ortiz, Michelle Haskins and husband Phillip and Sherman Davis Jr. all of Temple. He also leaves behind 10 grandchildren and numerous other siblings, nieces, nephews and friends.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, February 27, 2020 at 10 o’clock a.m. at Roberts Cemetery in Troy with Pastor Harlan Haines officiating.

Hewett-Arney Funeral Home of Temple is entrusted with the arrangements.
