Welton Ray “Top” Freeman passed away on December 1, 2019 peacefully in his sleep at his home in Temple, Texas. He was born 8 July 1931 in Malta, Texas to Clyde Bramlett Freeman and Lillie Rebecca Langford.

Born one of eleven children, Top’s youngest memories were happy on the family farm. Years later, Top found his talent in football at New Boston High School, which he still fondly remembered as one of his greatest athletic accomplishments. In this, his passion for comradery was born, Top enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served his country as an Air Traffic Controller during post World War II. His favorite memory from his service, was his impeccable landing record, no planes lost or damaged during the Berlin Airlift. Following his service, he continued his profession as an Air Traffic Controller for fourteen additional years. Despite his love of aircraft, Top made his career as an electrician for forty-two years before retiring to Temple, Texas. He met his wife, Marjorie (Margie) Nell Walker of Avery, Texas. They were married in 1953. They had 2 children, a son, Dale Ray Freeman, eleven months later they welcomed their daughter, Deborah (Debbie) Ann Freeman to the world.

Some of his fondest memories in his later years were supporting his grandchildren in their sports and academics, coin collecting, and bird watching. He proudly rendered one of his oldest granddaughter’s first salutes when she joined the United States Air Force.

Top is survived by his children, Dale Freeman and his wife Sandra Freeman of Grand View Texas, and Debbie (Freeman) Donnelly and her husband Timothy Donnelly of Hughesville , Maryland; one brother Allen and his wife Loretta Freeman of Texarkana, Texas, two sisters, Erma Nell and her husband Jimmy Brookshire of Avery, Texas, and Carolyn (Freeman) Barker of Texarkana, Arkansas, and his four grandchildren, Amber Donnelly, Seth Donnelly, Rachel Freeman, and Alan Freeman.
