Obituary

Wendell Raymond “PeeWee” Conrad, 76, left this life to be with Jesus in the early morning hours of Monday, April 27, 2020 in Temple, Texas at the William R. Courtney Texas State Veterans Home, where he had been a resident for almost 3 years. He was born July 31, 1943 in Ransom, Kansas to Sylvester George and Muriel Fern (Murphy) Conrad.
Wendell grew up in McCracken, Kansas and was a graduate of McCracken High School, class of 1962. After high school, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He achieved his Rifle Marksman award, as well as his Expert Rifle M-14 award. When his military service ended, Wendell married, had a family and began working as a concrete finisher in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and later owned his own business (PeeWee’s Custom Concrete) in Vacaville, California. He retired in Texas to be closer to family.
Wendell was a very likable guy, and made a friend wherever he went. He had an easy laugh, the brightest blue eyes, and thoroughly enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle. His faith in the Lord Jesus Christ was very important to him in his Catholic upbringing and adult life.
Left to cherish his memory is his son Dale Conrad (Joy Hicks) of Jupiter, Florida and granddaughter Brandy Conrad of West Palm Beach, Florida. Daughter Tami Warmack, granddaughter Harley Covey, granddaughter Faith Warmack, grandson, Austin Warmack, all of Priddy, Texas. Daughter Dawn Conrad of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Brother Roy Conrad (Phyllis) of McCracken, Kansas; Brother Jim Conrad (Martha) of Holcomb, Missouri; Brother Rich Conrad (Linda) of St. Louis, Missouri. These nieces and nephews also survive him: Randy Conrad (Karen Matal) of Liebenthal, Kansas; Rhonda Allen (Neil) of Wichita, Kansas; Diana Wheat (Allen Mullen) of Eugene, Oregon; Mike Hopper (Barb Disney) of Goodland, Kansas; Curtis Dawson (Kristy) of Gassville, Arkansas; Jaimie Teel (Terence) of Lake City, Arkansas; Erika Bader (Troy) of Auburn, Alabama; Andrew Conrad (Ashley) of Champaign, Illinois; Michael Conrad (Savanna) of Canberra, Australia. Several great nieces and nephews also survive him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Mary Lynn Hopper.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the McCracken St. Mary’s Catholic Church Perpetual Care, P.O. Box 192, McCracken, Kansas 67556.
Condolences or remembrances may be left for the family at www.hewettarney.com/memorials.
A private, family funeral will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery, McCracken, Kansas on Friday, May 15th.
Hewett-Arney Funeral Home of Temple, Texas is entrusted with the arrangements.
