Obituary

William G. “Bill” Slayton Jr., age 84, of Temple passed from this life during the evening hours of Thursday, February 20, 2020 at a local nursing home. Born on the 25th day of June 1935 he was the son of William Sr. and Shirley (Thompson) Slayton.
Bill grew up in the Temple area and with the exception of only a short part of his life being lived in Arkansas he was a lifelong resident of Temple. Bill’s work ethic was second to none. He could be described as a jack of all trades because he knew a little bit about a lot of things. There was not a broken engine around that Bill could not work on and fix. He spent a great deal of his life as a truck driver but retired from Scott & White Hospital after working 17 years in the maintenance department. Bill loved to tell stories and share memories from his past and old truck driving tales. He loved to BBQ and even built all of his own cookers. Bill’s life led him to his best friend in 1988. He married Joyce (Tucker) and the two would build a home and a life together. Bills last few years have been a struggle with dementia but at last his pain and suffering is over.
He is preceded in death by his parents William Sr. and Shirley.
Bill leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife Joyce of Temple, daughter Linda Boecker and husband Charles of Lott, daughter Susan Buntin of Cabot, AR, son Billy Don Slayton and son Roger Slayton both of AR. He also leaves numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Private family services will be held at a later date.
Hewett-Arney Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
